ITEM SIZES

Please help us to standardize food units for the clients. It will be helpful if you encourage your congregation to purchase the size indicated. While larger sizes or bulk packages may sometimes be cheaper per ounce, we distribute items based on servings per unit for each family size. It is better to allow a larger family to select three of the standard size items ( i.e., 1 lb. bags of rice) than to tell a client with a small family, who is allowed 1 lb., they cannot have a larger size item when we have them in stock. This puts both client and volunteer in an awkward situation. Stocking larger sizes also contributes to shortage of items. Five 3 lb. bags (15 lbs) will serve five clients regardless of family size because we cannot resize the bag, whereas, fifteen 1 lb. bags will serve 15 clients with small families.

Standard sized canned vegetables and fruits of the 12 - 15 oz. size usually contain 2-3 servings per can. Larger families are allowed to select more cans based on the number in their family.

“Assorted Beans and Peas” includes, but is not limited to, Crowder peas, Black-eyed peas, Kidney, Pinto, Black, Limas, and other beans or peas not listed individually on our food list ( such as green beans and peas or pork and beans).

“Various Meats” are meats for meals and includes, but is not limited to, Salmon, Corned Beef, Spam, Chicken, Chili with or without beans (not hot dog sauce), and meat substitutes such as Pasta with meat (Ravioli, Lasagna, etc.).

“Boxed Dinners” are considered to be the Hamburger and/or Tuna Helper type mixes of any brand or variety and may include Pizza Kits.

“Bread Mix” should be of the Bisquick-type mix in 40 oz. box. These are favored over flour because they require no other ingredients except water or milk.

“Boxed Potato Products” includes, but is not limited to, Mashed (13 oz. box), Au Gratin, Scalloped, etc.
